The Cornish Pilot Gig is a six-oared rowing boat traditionally raced to put pilots aboard incoming vessels and gig racing is now a highly popular and competitive sport.

In this unit Pupils ;

  • investigate historical sources to find out about William Peters and how the Cornish Pilot Gig evolved

  • design and construct their own watercraft and test it out on the water

  • row a boat and participate in a range of fitness activities
