James Lawry, an enterprising strawberry grower from Bohetherick, sent his produce on the train from Saltash to Convent Garden in London and transformed market gardening in the Tamar Valley.

In this unit pupils;

  • travel on the River Tamar and bump into 'James Lawry', a character from the past.
  • make bird scarers to protect their growing produce and design 'chips' (punnets) to help James transport his strawberries
  • make a market stall featuring their own produce for a seasonal celebration
